The PM’s speech in the Loksabha: "…. Those who believe that their voice and their voice alone represents the will of 1.2 billion people should reflect deeply on that position. They must allow the elected representatives of the people in parliament to do the job that they were elected for."
Fantastic! Does he realize that they were not elected to perform corrupt activities? Does he realize that the “elected representatives of the people in parliament” are answerable to the people who elected them in the first place? Does he realize that the very same people who elected the “representatives” are the ones out on the streets supporting Anna? Does he still want to wish away the movement as a passing fad? If so, I am afraid that Mr. Singh is going to bite the dust. Very Soon.
He needs to realize, and now, that other than a handful of cronies in his (HER?) coterie, the 1.2 billion he speaks of have had enough of ‘under the table’ and ‘over the top’ corruption activities plaguing the “system”. I say “system” because the politicians and bureaucrats who are not currently in ‘power’ cannot be absolved either.
The so long lethargic but salubrious general population have woken up! The protests thus far have been amazingly peaceful and needs to be appreciated. The ball is now in the government’s court. Let them play it with tact and not deceit. Let there be a LOKPAL, truly of the people.
